In Last Will And Testament playwright Jennifer Houlton introduces us to eight haunted figures wandering a vivid Florida landscape. As they tell their stories, secrets are revealed and lives converge. In language eloquently theatrical and achingly poetic, Ms. Houlton’s play asks us to confront the darkness as we struggle towards the possibility of light.

Jennifer Houlton is an actor, a writer, and a director. She began acting at age 8 on the NBC Soap Opera, The Doctors, and was on the show for ten years before going to college at Cornell University. Her screenplay play, based on the experience of “growing up” on a soap opera, SWIMMING DRUNK AT NIGHT, was a Semi-Finalist in the 2008 Gotham Screenplay Writing Awards. Shortly after Cornell, Ms. Houlton studied and apprenticed with experimental pioneer, Joseph Chaikin, and accompanied his group the Winter Project, to the International Experimental Theatre Festival in Curacas, Venezuela. She wrote about the festival for Variety, and began writing plays and screenplays. Her plays EVERYTHING WE’VE EVER WANTED, BURT LANCASTER starring Melora Walters, and ELEPHANT starring Robert Lupone and Thomas Gibson were subsequently produced at Manhattan Class Company (MCC). Her other plays include STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN co-writer with actor/writer Cara Seymour, which was chosen to open the Obie Award-winning Cucaracha Theatre’s 10th Anniversary Season; ALLIGATOR IN BLOOM, starring Julianne Nicholson at The New Group; and LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT with Back House Productions. Ms. Houlton’s screenplays include SHOT OF LOVE, SWIMMING DRUNK AT NIGHT, and WATER, a feature that I wrote and directed off-season in Fire Island in 2004. WATER stars Idina Menzel (Tony Award Winner, WICKED), Michael Shannon (2009 Academy Award Nominee, Revolutionary Road), and Shea Whigham (Wristcutters: A Love Story) which features an original soundtrack by John Parish. In 2007, Ms. Houlton won an Emmy Award for “Writing in Advanced Media” for my work on the online sitcom Floaters. Her short film HUNT premiered at the Los Angeles Short Film Festival. She has also completed the one-man show RUMBLE written for Julliard grad, Frank Harts, inspired by the life of Muhammad Ali. As a journalist, her work has appeared in Variety, The New York Daily News , The New York Post, Seventeen, Mademoiselle, and Spin.
