Loosely inspired by the life of Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca (1898-1936), the play melds episodes both real and imaginary to explore the interconnections between life, death, and artistic expression. Lorca’s deeply evocative plays and poetry reflected the violence of a country torn apart by civil war, and also explored the conflicts within himself related to both his artistic expression and his homosexuality. This play is an attempt to explore this conflict between the personal and the historic, through the lens of Lorca’s own work but also through music, dance, history, and dramatic episodes.
